Wrongful? Fines at Georgetown Township Public Library

I would like to know if there is anyone else out there who believes that they have been wrongfully fined by the Georgetown Township Public Library, particularly for "scratches" on DVD materials.

I have received a $4 and a $6 fine on DVD's that were checked out from the public library in Jenison, and having a considerable number of CD's and DVD's myself, I consider it highly unlikely that the only ones that I have damaged belonged to the public library, after having been played once or twice.

If this has happened to you, please comment here, and also make sure that you send a note to the GeorgeTown Township Supervisor, http://www.gtwp.com/board/tb.html

Anyway, with Grandville Library so close, shouldn't we shut this one down anyway?

Yes, I've had the problem too and might I suggest we tear down the Jenison library and build a new Family Fare......

We've had this happen a few times...and the last time we decided that we will never rent CD's/computer games there again. We never had a problem at the Wyoming branch. They won't even listen to you or let you see the so-called scratch that they're fining you for. I've heard other people say that they've had the same problem and that they simply go to the Grandville branch where thay don't have any problems.

I am dealing with the same problem too. They are trying to charge me $20 to resurface one book on cd. I'm not even sure that I got to the final 2 cd's in the book. These are the ones they say were too scratched to play. I too have many cd's that I play over and over in my 2 year old car. I have never had one of them get a scratch. They refused to let me see the cd's. I was told that auto cd players ruin cd's often. Since when?? When I checked them out, the gal spent about 5 minutes documenting all of the scratches on them, but mysteriously, these notes never made it to their online system. I was told by another person in line at the time that Georgetown Library does this all the time. She told me to return cd's to Grandville from now on. There is never a problem there. I was told to go to the Georgetown Township office to complain. I intend to do that tomorrow. Any other suggestions? I think it's nothing more than common thievery!

I reported it to the Georgetown Supervisor.

We borrowed a 20 cd set last summer. Supposedly they were all resurfaced before we borrowed them and now they tell us that there are multiple scratches on several of them.
Hard to believe they get scratched when I handle them by the edges and take them directly from the case to the player and snap them back into the case when each cd is finished.
Now almost a year latter they want to charge me $33. Sounds like a good way to increase income.

Sorry-- I realize this is 2 years after your post, but I am BEYOND FURIOUS with the Georgetown Library. I could fill pages with my frustrations, but yes, I have also had problems with fines for scratches on CDs. Did you have any luck communicating with the director? I can't even find a staff directory!
